Dear Friends and Families,

Our class is creating a video about reading and writing. We're asking people questions about their reading and writing experiences and how literacy has influenced the lives of people around the United States. We're inviting you to respond to one or all of the following questions. In your post, it would be helpful to know if you are an adult or child, and where you're from. We are looking forward to learning how others think and feel about literacy!

1. How did you learn to read?
2. Do you remember the time you realized you could read? What was that like?
3. What book or author got you hooked on reading? What made that book or author unforgettable?
4. What are you reading now?
5. How important is writing well?
6. What author has helped you the most as a writer? What did they do to guide your writing style?
7. What kinds of writing do you do now?

What a great project! Reading and writing are both things I love to do! I use both every day in my job as a minister and retreat leader and for fun in my spare time. I couldn't do what I do today if it had not been for my first grade teacher, Mrs. Smallwood, and my parents. Mrs. Smallwood noticed I wasn't reading as well as I could and had me stay after school to read to another student until I read smoothly and well. My dad, who cannot see, loved to have me read to him and still does today. My mom was always reading something!

Right now I have written one book, "Dream Walking," and am working on another with a co-author. I write on my website and on ezinearticles.com .

I would love to see what your students put together!

Happy reading and video creating!

1)I learned to read by my kindergarten teacher (Mrs. Norrenbrock- was Miss Pierce) teaching us how to sound out the letters.
2)The time I realized I was actually reading was in class and I read the bulletin board that said Today's Weather. The first thing I said was 'oh, my.'
3)The books that I really got hooked on was in 2nd Grade and believe it orn not - ROALD DAHL. That's why I was so quiet during The BFG - or atleast I tried.
What made the book so unforgatable was how he used all of the non-sense words.
4)Now, I am reading Rowland Smith books including Elephant Run.
5)Writing well is so important that if you don't write well, you wouldn't be able to explain to the reader your thoughts.
6)The writer that has helped me the most is Obert Skye. He taught us all about how you should take your time and not rush through everything. Avi has helped me out a ton too because in The Begginning, the muddle, and the End he said jot down your ideas the figure out what you've wrote after you've written it.
7) I do poetry because to me - it is very easy to describe your thoughts and feeling through it.
