Three children in the neighborhood decided to throw a party and share the expenses equally. Susan bought $3.oo worth of ice cream, Janet bought a cake from the bakery for $5.oo, and Sharon bought $1.oo from the candy shop.
How much did each person pay the others so that each of them spent the same amount?

Janet gave Sharon 2 dollars so that they each payed 3 dollars
SLG - Tell me your thinking. How did you come up with your answer?
$5.00+$3.00+$1.00=$9.00. $9.00 is the total amount of money spent. If there is 3 people who spent money, and $9.00 spent total, and you divide it equally, it equals $3.00. So each girl got $3.oo to spend for the party.
Janet spent $5.00 on the cake. Sharon only spent $1.00 on candy. If Sharon gives Janet $2.00, then Janet just got back her $2.00 that she over spent for the cake. And all 3 girls spent $3.00.
Good job, class!
MRS-$3.00 dollars.
