Emma's family is going to travel from their home near St. Louis, Missouri, to her grandmother's nome near Chicago, Illinois, a distance of 290 miles. Emma's mother is the driver, and she averages 50 miles an hour.

I think it will take 5.8 hours to get to Chicago. I think this because if you do 290 divided by 50,it equals 5.8 hours. To divide 290 by 50, you have to see how many times 50 can go into 290. That answer is 5. Then you do 50 times 5. That is 250. Then you do 290 minus 250. That equals 40. Then you have to add a zero, making it 400. Then you see how many times 50 goes into 400. That is 8. Before you put the 8 next to the 5, you have to put a decimal after the 5, then you put the 8. That is your answer. 5.8 hours to Chicago.
When you're doing this math problem, you really have to slow down and think. It took me a while to think it out, and to do all the division and multiplication. Anonymous, I think that you need to slow down a little more and think about it. I bet you'll do great!☺
290/50= 5 hours+40/50= 5 hours and 40 minutes
Emma's family would travel almost 6 hours
